Ready to enjoy the best Africa has to offer?

As soon as you tell people you are moving to Johannesburg, the usual response isn't positive! Particularly when you start searching on the internet.

Don't stop at red traffic lights, or to walk anywhere and here are some tips on how not to get highjacked.........

We are here to show you the other side of Joburg, the reasons why many expats never want to leave at the end of their assignments, the hidden gems of daily life and inspirational people all living here in the city of gold.

So don't waste any more time searching for information, (after all its probably out of date, and will make you too scared to leave the house!) Allow us to answer your questions, to take care of all your administration, and show you the best Joburg, South Africa, and Africa has to offer.

We can guarantee once the African soil is under your skin, you will not want to leave.

jozi, moving to joburg, joburg expat

Julia was born in Germany and came to Johannesburg in 2010. She knows what it means to make a new country your home and has been through all the visa-, house-hunting, school-finding and friendship-seeking processes herself. Her partner is South African, so she was lucky to get some first-hand insider information from the start.
Julia is a Social and Cultural Anthropologist by training and worked as a lecturer and free-lance editor in Germany. She joined Translating Me in 2017 to get involved with the Social Media and research and is furthermore splitting her time between project assistances in the cultural industry, pursuing her PhD and her family.
Julia is passionate about good coffee, local shops and great outdoor spaces and can't wait to share all of this with you.

You can follow Julia's Joburg journey on little_mr_y & goinglocaljozi (Instagram) and Going Local Jozi (Facebook).
